DVP 240 Death Storm – Swarming (2022)
Two years after their punishing fourth album “For Dread Shall Reign”, the Austrian three-piece is back with “Swarming”, a new demo. After 15 years of high-quality thrashing in an ever-steady line-up (the band underwent a name change from “Damage” to “Deathstorm” though), the band knows exactly what they are capable of and what kind of sound their creations need. These two originals plus an additional (highly unusual) cover track are the result of their self-recording aspirations – and the sound turned out perfect for this uncompromising death thrash massacre!

DVP 237 Witchunter – Metal Dream (2022)
Founded in 2007, Italy’s WITCHUNTER began as the manifestation of true heavy metal obsession. Foremost among those metallic obsessions were the NWOBHM, ‘80s European heavy metal and speed metal, and especially ‘70s hard rock sounds and attitude. It all coalesced together into a paradoxically refreshing time-warp where traditional metal in the vein of Angel Witch, Jaguar, Tygers of Pan Tang, and Saxon get the subtlest of twists, not to mention some evil mixing in a manner most Mercyful Fate and Black Sabbath. A true purist’s band, then, but not one that’s just lazy pastiche: WITCHUNTER are the real deal, from the beginning to now!
And now, since long years after their last LP, WITCHUNTER return hungrier than ever! Metal Dream is the name of that long-awaited comeback, and a more simple-yet-sublime title you will not find. Gleaming with a chrome-encased production that’s pure ‘80s valor, WITCHUNTER’s latest spans all the band’s previous styles – dramatic speed metal overdrive, leather-and-chains strut, balls-to-the-wall headbangers – but the pure passion and charisma in which they deliver these nine primary tracks, the seamless expression of HEAVY METAL in ALL its glories, makes Metal Dream astounding to behold. Hooks, solos, aggression, dynamics, high notes, manliness, variety, everything heading out to the highway, and even some tasteful nods to Tony Martin-era Sabbath: it’s a veritable jukebox of ’82-’87, if we’re being specific, although it’s all palatably modern just the same. WITCHUNTER truly LIVE this, and it comes through loud ‘n’ proud in their songwriting.
If your metal heart beats purer than steel, awaken to WITCHUNTER’s Metal Dream!

DVP 236 Risingfall – Rise or Fall (2022)
Based in Tokyo, Japan’s RISINGFALL formed in 2014. From the beginning, the band’s foundation has been power-leaning heavy metal with an emphasis on vocal melodies. Stirred into their magickal cauldron are strong doses of NWOBHM, hard rock, and US power metal from the olden days.
RISINGFALL made their recorded debut in 2017 with the Prologue demo. That same year, the Tokyo Metal Fire live EP and “Far Britannia” were both released on Bandcamp. In 2018 came the Cry for the Steel EP, and a year the Arise from the Ashes (蘇る灰) EP. In 2020, at last would all these short-lengths be compiled onto CD format. And while a number of lineup changes occurred, but by 2019 did RISINGFALL finalize the lineup of founding guitarists Yoshiki and Kono, bassist Gyokusai Ishii, drummer Yuki, and erstwhile Military Shadow vocalist George Itoh. While performing live, work begins on the first RISINGFALL album.
At last, it is here, bearing the title Rise or Fall, but it comes not without tragedy: while recording was completed in spring 2021, Yoshiki was hospitalized after suffering from a chronic illness; later, in February 2022, he passes away. Thus, Rise or Fall is a tribute to this fiery six-stringer, and what a monument he leaves behind. Bristling with an energy that draws together the various likes of Saxon, Rainbow, Savage Grace, and especially Vicious Rumors and Michael Jackson-era Satan, RISINGFALL exude high drama and dazzling dynamics steeped in the rich tradition of hard rock and early heavy metal of the ‘70s bursting into the next decade with boundless possibilities. The scythe-sharp production makes Rise or Fall feel tastefully modern, but the band’s highly refined set of influences all gel together into something timeless. Plus, the variety of songcraft across these eight tracks makes each one a stunner on its own while rendering Rise or Fall an album-length experience: each one is undeniably RISINGFALL, but they truly can do it all.
Due to the wishes of Yoshiki and his family, RISINGFALL will continue to perform, and Oyatata from the thrash band Mud Tiger has joined as second guitarist. Rest in power, Yoshiki: Rise or Fall will echo your metalized memory for time eternal!
Highly varied Heavy Metal from Japan. Fast, hard rocking, powerful.

DVP 235 Tension / Spectre – Earth Crisis / Hard Attacks (2022)
Both heavy metal acts are no strangers to Dying Victims and its audience, as they have released two EPs as well as an EP and an album respectively. Spectre’s side contains one straight rocking track “Hard Attacks” which was originally recorded in 2017 and only distributed handmade CD-R which was given away for free with orders from the band’s own Heavy Chains Records store.
Tension’s debut album came out in early 2022 and was unfortunately followed by them splitting the band up. Now, posthumously, the 9th track “Earth Crisis” gets its well-deserved vinyl treatment as it was left off the album in order to reduce playing time and to preserve the best possible sound. Melancholic heavy metal at its best!

DVP 234 Bunker 66 / Lucifuge – Of Night and Lust (2022)
Both BUNKER 66 and LUCIFUGE should be familiar names to those versed in the dark deeds of DYING VICTIMS: Just earlier this year, BUNKER 66 released through the label a split 7” with fellow Italian filth-bangers HELLCRASH, as well as their long-awaited (and rightly celebrated) fourth album, Beyond the Help of Prayers, earlier in 2021; for their part, LUCIFUGE released their equally celebrated fourth album, Infernal Power, through DYING VICTIMS during the spring of 2021. Here on Of Night and Lust, both bands each deliver three exclusive songs, making for 24 minutes of ancient speed metal sleaze and metalpunk ghoulishness.
BUNKER 66 are up first and show no signs of slowing down, especially so after 15 years as a band now. “Mellhammer” and “Sulphurous Lust” are exemplary displays of their greasy speed-metal surge, and yet subtly exude an eerie aspect that perhaps point the way forward for future recordings. Capping their entry is a faithful cover of Motörhead’s “Doctor Rock,” which both underlines BUNKER 66’s roots as well as reverently paying respect to the fallen gods of Lemmy and Würzel. LUCIFUGE follow with an even-more-blackened iteration of their etched-in-stone metalpunk across the tracks “The Great Unseen” and “In Blood and Dust.” They conclude with a surprising-yet-storming anthem fittingly titled “Warriors of the Night.” While many metal anthems have been attempted under such a title, you’ve truly never heard one as invigorating as this – nor LUCIFUGE so bright and brassy!

DVP 233 Witch Blade – Månsken (2022)
Hailing from Kristinehamn, Sweden’s WITCH BLADE were formed back in 2012 by Witchlover and Witchhunter. The two childhood friends had been playing together in other projects but wanted to form a band that honored their heavy metal heroes: namely Angel Witch, Tokyo Blade, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. After writing a couple of songs, the band became a three-piece when drummer Witchburner joined in early 2013. The same year, the band recorded their self-titled debut demo, which sold out quickly and was later re-released by Levitate Records, followed by a 7” single titled Fjärrans Krig in 2014. After working as a sound engineer on the single recording, Witchdoctor joined on second guitar just in time for the band’s debut album, Oskuldernas Eld, released in 2015 by DYING VICTIMS.
WITCH BLADE made their live debut in 2015 as a supporting act for Black Trip. Since then, the band have made several live appearances around Sweden. Thereafter, a period of hibernation followed until 2021, when the band decided to continue again as a trio. The result is something of a rebirth: Månsken, WITCH BLADE’s second album.
While the cover to Oskuldernas Eld certainly clued listeners in to its contents, the one for Månsken compellingly complements the album’s contents in a most tasteful fashion. There’s undoubtedly an olde-worlde, magickally musty flair to WITCH BLADE here – also keenly note the band’s change in logos – their traditional heavy metal going back even further in time to the proto-metal era. Nothing overdriven, nothing too over-the-top, just hard rocking AND hot rockin’ and an almost narrative moodiness to the songwriting whilst staying locked into classic verse/chorus/break structures, WITCH BLADE once again locate that wonderful (and elusive) balance between garage-born emotion and swords & sorcery stateliness.
To a man, the riffs and leads of guitarists Witchlover and Witchdoctor (who also drums here) often impart a melancholy on par with Wishbone Ash’s Argus or Thin Lizzy’s Black Rose, while frontman/bassist Witchhunter sings his heart out in his native tongue, which only heightens the heart-on-sleeve pathos across Månsken. And just like its full-length predecessor, the eight-song Månsken is an extremely swift & satisfying spin at 33 minutes.
All those denim-clad diehards and cloak-wrapped warlocks into early (and moody) hard rock AND cult NWOBHM, you are hereby commanded to witness the rebirth of WITCH BLADE with Månsken!

This shall pave the way for their upcoming debut album

DVP 230 Vigilance – s/t (2022)
Born from the cavernous depths of Adelsberg, Slovenia’s VIGILANCE have been unleashing their own brand of heavy metal since Walpurgisnacht 2010. Inspired both by the harmonic arts of the original NWOBHM wave and the sepulchral elements of the first wave of black metal, VIGILANCE have steadily perfected their craft over the past decade-plus, possessing a unique crossover appeal to fans of early Iron Maiden and Mercyful Fate as equally as Venom and Bathory.
However, after years of taking that throwback sound to countless stages across Europe, it was VIGILANCE’s fourth album, Enter the Endless Abyss – released in 2019 by DYING VICTIMS to widespread acclaim – where the band had their breakout moment. Dark and dynamic but galloping gloriously with the eternal luminescence of HEAVY METAL might, Enter the Endless Abyss proved that VIGILANCE had truly nailed their subtly unique sound – and made it more compelling than ever.
And although some three years have passed since that pivotal record, VIGILANCE return with the same fire on the brand-new mini-album Vigilance. Across its five-song/26-minute duration, VIGILANCE’s self-titled salvo goes in an ever-epic direction, maximizing that (memorable) sonic storytelling they so compactly revealed on its full-length predecessor. Everything’s still head- and fistbangingly metal, arguably even more so here – the dual-guitar work is FIRE in the non-flashiest way – but there’s equally a sense of fantastical AOR ala classic-era Rainbow as the record progresses, hitting a heavenly high with nearly-seven-minute closer “Orbis Mundi.”
And while VIGILANCE’s execution has never been doubted, on Vigilance do they loosen up a bit and let these more mysterious odes wind and wend with a suitably earthier feel. Put another way, take one look at that gorgeous cover artwork and you KNOW what you’re in for!
VIGILANCE have been aging like a fine wine, and have only grown more potent. Drink deeply of the concise cup that is Vigilance!

DVP 225 War Ripper – Strength in Numbers 7” (2022)
While the name might be unfamiliar to many, WAR RIPPER is a side-project of prolific madman Joel Grind, who needs no introduction for the long-running (and influential) Toxic Holocaust as well as his solo work and the Tiger Junkies with Abigail founder Yasuyuki. From the start, WAR RIPPER was built on the foundation of honoring Joel’s D-beat influences, and he thrillingly recast with the strict-yet-exciting Hellstorm EP in 2007 courtesy of Hells Headbangers.
While the years since have obviously been spent on Toxic Holocaust and their rigorous recording and touring demands, Joel Grind brought back WAR RIPPER in the pandemic-stricken 2020 with the EP Strength in Numbers. Originally released on Bandcamp, Strength in Numbers at last sees a physical release on 7” vinyl courtesy of longtime fans DYING VICTIMS. Picking up exactly where Hellstorm left off but buttressed by clear-yet-crushing production, Strength in Numbers is a swift ‘n’ satisfying statement of metallic D-beat. No more but definitely no less, and of course graced with Grind’s encyclopedic knowledge of both metal and punk, WAR RIPPER’s long-awaited second recording is sure to stoke maniacs of Disfear, Warcollapse, England’s Disgust, later Anti-Cimex, and granddaddies of it all, Discharge.

DVP 224 Gallower – Eastern Witchcraft (2022)
Formed in 2015, Poland’s GALLOWER wasted no time in recording their first demo, Witch Hunt is On, which was released by Shadow Kingdom Records. A second demo, Through the Gallows, followed a year later, and both demos were re-released together on CD by Under the Tyrant’s Banner.
The next couple years were spent playing gigs, with GALLOWER sharing stages with the likes of Angel Witch, Nifelheim, Satan, Blasphemy, Nocturnal, Attic, Hellish Crossfire, Witching Hour, Division Speed, and more. Finally, in 2019, recordings began in Bestial Sound Studio for their debut album, Behold the Realm of Darkness, which was released in June 2020.
As ever, GALLOWER have stayed true to their power-trio format – Nocturnitier rips the guitar, Speedfire bangs the drums, and Tzar gives his sepulchral voices and bulldozing bass – and they’ve reached something approaching ripping perfection with their latest Eastern Witchcraft EP. With a sound seeking the ultimate revenge and squarely located around 1985 (maybe even 1986), GALLOWER incite a riot of violence that skillfully melds the Teutonic legendry of Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, and Violent Force with the first-wave black magick of Bathory, Hellhammer, Venom, and Japan’s Sabbat. No more but definitely no less, Eastern Witchcraft is a five-song/17-minute spell of destruction sure to entrance diehards and genre borderlanders alike. In particular, GALLOWER at present emit strong vibes of early Bulldozer, Running Wild, Deathrow, and pre-Rick Rubin Slayer.
To restate the obvious, this is a time-warp, and GALLOWER will definitely WARP even the sturdiest minds – this is Eastern Witchcraft!

DVP 223 Suffering Sights – When Sanity Becomes Insanity (2022)
One of the best-kept secrets in the forever-burning Chilean underground, Santiago’s SUFFERING SIGHTS formed in 2017 and have been steadily building their sound across a successive stream of two demos, a digital single, and most recently an EP. Now, that full arsenal of songs have been delivered in their ultimate form on the band’s long-awaited debut album, When Sanity Becomes Insanity.
For those who’ve been following SUFFERING SIGHTS so far, the majority of the ten songs comprising When Sanity Becomes Insanity should come as no surprise: a feverish blast of deathrashing metal in the vein of later Possessed, Dark Angel, Texas’ Devastation, and even ‘80s Death. Ripping is their assault and stout is their songwriting, with all instruments clearly heard (and powerful) in the mix, the quartet truly using their enviable chops in service of those ten songs. But, what’s perhaps most surprising is how POWERFUL that production is: both era-authentic and timeless all the same, the album feels like a punch in the face while leaving a dizzying delirium in the mind, sounding exactly how a proper death/thrash record should. “No more but no less,” as the maxim goes, which is all the more special given how rare such deathrash is these days.
So, When Sanity Becomes Insanity, open your eyes and see such SUFFERING SIGHTS!

DVP 222 Raptore – Blackfire (2022)
Formed in late 2012 by vocalist/guitarist Nico Cattoni, RAPTORE originally hailed from Buenos Aires, Argentina and released their first demo in 2014. In 2016, they released their debut album, Rage N’ Fever, which allowed them to tour South America and open for such bands as Exciter and Enforcer.
Not being able to find suitable musicians for a steady lineup, in 2018, Nico decides to move to Europe in order to give RAPTORE better opportunities and recognition. He set base in Barcelona and completed the lineup with three of the most talented musicians in the scene. One year later, they released the single “Prisoner Of The Night” through Church Recordings and were booked for festivals such as Pyrenean and Trveheim. Unfortunately, the pandemic delayed those concerts until 2022.
Nevertheless, the fortified RAPTORE lineup began work during 2021 on their second album, Blackfire, entering the esteemed Moontower Studios. Immediately, right from the very first notes, Blackfire EXPLODES with an excitement that simply cannot be contained. Righteously ripping, draped in darkness but lined with purple velvet, RAPTORE here give a masterclass in spooky speed metal: fierce yet fun, authentically rooted in the ‘80s but not blinkered by the past, and above all ADDICTING. That the quartet can maintain a bristling energy no matter the pace – cruising, headbanging, or overdrive – is some sort of black magick; that each track is anthemic in its own right and then altogether coalesce into a unified statement of intent is simply diabolical. But, while Blackfire is most definitely the band’s darkest and fastest recording to date, let it be known that not everything is of a Satanic/vampiric/demonic intent; just as many personal messages exist within the album’s eight-song/32-minute runtime. Which is all to say nothing of the evocative lead-work, which is literal FIRE!
Featuring an absolutely stellar mix & master courtesy of Javi Félez, Blackfire firmly establishes RAPTORE as worldwide contenders. From past to present – from Helstar, Liege Lord, and Chastain to Enforcer, Skull Fist, and White Wizzard – prepare to get BURNED!

After the initial release of Drifter’s “Demo 2021” on Caviar Records and Tapes sold out immediately – it was obvious that a European version must be made available for wider distribution. Drifter’s heavy metal rock plays like a dusty 7 incher from UK, 1981. Brimming with class, and hooks aplenty, their twin guitar attack and melodious approach to songwriting takes the listener back to the early days of heavy metal.
No need to start dropping names of all those obscure 7” titles – fans of this old feeling will not be disappointed. So sink your teeth into this aged piece of heavy metal mutton – and keep your ears to the ground as these steel wheels have just started down the track.

DVP 219 Spellforger – Upholders of Evil (2022)
Hailing from Indonesia, SPELLFORGER began in early 2020, highly influenced by early proto-black metal such as Celtic Frost, early Slayer, Bathory, Possessed, and also modern black metal-influenced thrash metal bands such as Cruel Force, Deathhammer, Condor, and Inculter. And since most of the members are a huge fans of the old-school style of death metal, SPELLFORGER’s music also bears some slight ’90s death metal influences, as well.
SPELLFORGER was formed by Demi Raldi (AKA Middernacht), and then he also invited a close friend named Jamie (AKA Carrion), who is also guitarist in the black metal bands Ashtarothum and Neurotic of Gods. Together, they then invited a veteran black metal drummer named Yaya (AKA L. Tchort), who has been involved in the black metal scene since the mid ’90s. Some time after, SPELLFORGER was finally formed, with Middernacht recruiting a friend named Fauzan (AKA Horrifier) to fill the position of bassist even though his real skill is playing drums.
A few weeks after the band had formed, SPELLFORGER started to write their first single, “Pestilentia,” and it was recorded three weeks later without any rehearsal. The song was widely well-received with black/thrash fans, with some viewing the band as giving a new, fresh injection into their local metal scene – this because Indonesia (in this case, Bandung) is widely known for its huge death metal scene, mainly focused on the brutal/slam style, which has largely been overdone. Instead, SPELLFORGER wanted to revive the spirit of old-school metal within their local scene, bringing a strong anti-poser attitude in their music and lyrics. The band are also against any other sort of trends that’ve been going on for quite some time within that local scene. Alas, SPELLFORGER released their debut EP, Upholders of Evil, on CD in early spring 2021 via Personal Records. Bearing six tracks in 22 minutes, Upholders of Evil is a fresh blast of old air, the band honoring the ancient ways – actual songwriting, live playing, unpolished recording – with utmost aplomb whilst never reeking of “retro” regressionism.
The record reaped widespread acclaim, and came to the attention of DYING VICTIMS, who are now releasing it on the format it so rightly deserves: VINYL!
Simply put, this is METAL played by METAL maniacs – and DYING VICTIMS is indeed home to some of nowadays’ most maniacal metal. If anyone needed further convincing, the title alone to Upholders of Evil should say more than enough, as SPELLFORGER likewise exude a tangible evil here: never overwrought nor overly obvious, this atmosphere authentically harkens to those ancient forebears. No other words needed: SPELLFORGER’s Upholders of Evil will at last spread its black magick on vinyl!

DVP 218 Animalize – Meat We’re Made Of (2022)
The roots of France’s ANIMALIZE go back to 2014, when the moniker was first chosen, but their lineup didn’t solidify until 2018. From the beginning, the power-trio’s influences were set: heavy metal from the ‘70s and ‘80s, but specifically the likes of Loudness, W.A.S.P., Tokyo Blade, Glenn Tipton, Ritchie Blackmore, Glenn Hughes, and Annihilator and especially classic French heavy metal like ADX, Malediction, Sortilège and Warning. Synthwave and New Wave, both old and new, also musically influence ANIMALIZE.
However, it is the band’s love of movies which arguably influences ANIMALIZE’s outlook the most. For them, a visual identity and atmosphere – whether in their visual aesthetic, be it artwork or onstage, or especially their upcoming videos – is of the utmost importance. Film also feeds their lyrics, quite often. The band states that such movies as Evil Dead, Mad Max, Pet Sematary, Masters of the Universe, and Terminator are among their most beloved.
Armed with these noble touchstones, ANIMALIZE released their debut EP, Tapes from the Crypt, in 2020. A swift and solid 20 minutes, the EP displayed massive promise from ANIMALIZE, which they’ve handily surpassed with their full-length debut, Meat We’re Made Of. Graced again with an unforgettable cover, Meat We’re Made Of is a breathless and breathtaking statement. Its sound races all over the place, from cruising speed to tricky detours to headbanging mid-tempos, with an organized sort of mayhem, as explosive solos and dramatic vocal layering turn these nine beguiling songs into impossible anthems. That sound is undeniably HEAVY METAL, but ANIMALIZE manage to synthesize speed metal with power-thrash and traditional metal into a dizzying-yet-addicting blend that jumps across countries and even continents with insane ease. It’s both futuristic and firmly rooted in the past, and the album’s sterling production sharpens it to a katana.
Maybe most amazingly, this dazzling interplay comes from a power-trio, but ANIMALIZE will become a quartet for upcoming live shows. Likewise, Meat We’re Made Of had, in fact, been finished for some time, but the band have prepared two music videos for its release which tell a story – eight actors in addition to the band, with tons of action and FX. Altogether, a suitably grand entrance for what will be one of metal’s most literally explosive debuts this year!

DVP 217 Ironhawk – Ritual of the War Path (2022)
From the remote backwaters of Tasmania, IRONHAWK emerged in 2013 at a ramshackle basement gig where a hijack of the stage to butcher a handful of Motörhead covers lit the fuse, which in turn exploded as the unholy trinity of Simon (ex-Bastard Squad, Distroy), Mitch (ex-Vulgar, Bulletproof), and Ange (The Wizar’d, Tarot) cast blackened metalpunk forged in the flames of Bathory, Amebix, Sacrilege, Venom, and English Dogs.
The year 2014 saw the first round of tracks to be released as the mini-album Boozehounds From Hell. However, it was in the years that followed that IRONHAWK would gain momentum, with rowdy live shows around Australia and beyond, building their following of headbangers and hellraisers. The year 2017 saw the Cemetery of Steel EP give the taste of metalpunk fury, and upon the plague of 2020, IRONHAWK turned to the studio to lay down their long-awaited full-length debut, Ritual of the War Path.
Like a time-warp to 1985, Ritual of the War Path is a grandiose-yet-grimy statement of ancient metalpunk powers known only to the most devout. To say that IRONHAWK are indeed “devout” – and direly so – to their etched-into-steel influences would be an understatement; to say that the power-trio actually DO something with those influences is also an understatement. Thus, we hear the cavernous crunge of early Bathory, the sooty surge of early Sacrilege, the burning spirits of prime English Dogs, and definitely (and uniquely for this style) the epic landscapes of mid ‘80s Amebix across the album’s surprisingly dynamic 37 minutes. It’s that lattermost element, in particular, which puts Ritual of the War Path into rarefied territory, for instead of merely aping Amebix’s most characteristic moments (or whole riffs themselves), IRONHAWK thread those textures into most of the album’s songs, giving Motörcharge a new look – but one still rooted in a road warrior past.
Life is bleak, dark, perhaps beyond redemption. Why not hop on a rusty, bespiked dune-buggy and set out for new adventures on the wasteland with IRONHAWK’s Ritual of the War Path?

DVP 216 Armory – Mercurion (2022)
Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden’s ARMORY started out in 2012 and have been delivering hyper-speed metal ever since. After two demos, the debut album World Peace… Cosmic War was released via High Roller Records in 2016, and it garnered great reviews from all around the world. The band then got to share the stage with bigger bands such as Pentagram and Nifelheim.
With all the new experience, ARMORY went into the studio again in late 2017 to record their second album. That album, The Search, was released in July 2018 via High Roller and again did it garner great reviews and proved that the songwriting had developed in the right direction. The band was also able to break new ground outside of Sweden with gigs in Germany, Belgium, and Denmark.
With two albums under their belts, ARMORY were finally ready to make something that they had planned for years but previously didn’t feel they were ready for: a full-blown sci-fi concept album with a story from start to finish. And now it arrives in the form of Mercurion, set to be released by new label home DYING VICTIMS. With this goal in place, this didn’t just put more pressure on the lyrics but also to make the music more dramatic to fit the story – and dazzlingly and dynamically, ARMORY accomplish all that (and more!) across Mercurion. The album takes the listener through a dramatic journey aboard the starship Mercurion, named after the god Mercurius – the winged messenger of the gods, protector of travelers, and god of boundaries between worlds.
ARMORY’s now-trademark hyper-speed metal is more powerful and poignant than ever, pushing their boundaries of epic storytelling, mesmerizing hooks, and explosive solos whilst retaining their core sound. The production, in kind, carries the perfect balance of dirt and drama, grime and gleam, making their melodicism sound ever more effervescent while making sure this is the sound of five actual humans playing together as a band.
Now that band is heading out into space, and they beckon you to board Mercurion – ARMORY will guide the way!

DVP 212 Bunker 66/Hellcrash – Hell & Sulphor (2022)
Highlighting two of Italy’s filthiest metal entities, Hell & Sulphur features an exclusive track each from BUNKER 66 and HELLCRASH, both of whom delivered full-lengths for DYING VICTIMS last year. BUNKER 66 are up first with “Pandemonial Storms,” which sounds exactly like how it’s titled. Their long-awaited Beyond the Help of Prayers proved that there was still disgusting gasoline still left in their tank after nearly 15 years, and “Pandemonial Storms” punctuates that fact with Hellhammering, headbanging authority. HELLCRASH continue that hammering with the more Venomous “Hell Breaks Loose,” indeed breaking loose with an apocalyptic speed metal pulse. Road warriors to the bitter end, their Krvcifix Invertör was lawless in every right way, and “Hell Breaks Loose” displays that all further laws will be broken – with a superlative “fuck off and die in Hell!” as it does at record’s end. This is fucking Hell & Sulphur!

DVP 211 Harbinger – Doom On You (2022)
Originally released in 2009 by Chris Black’s Planet Metal label but only on CD, Doom on You would be the only full-length Lansing, Michigan’s HARBINGER would record. While a couple demos preceded it and a late-coming split 7” with Züül would be released in 2015, the band effectively broke up following the album’s original release, and Doom on You would successively grown in stature as a gem of cult American metal.
HARBINGER had its roots in a preceding band called Thwarter, which was admittedly “hugely influenced by Holy Terror, Sabbat, and Sadus.” As Thwarter eventually transitioned into HARBINGER and the lineup began to solidify, their style shifted away from thrash-leaning to more classic heavy metal, influenced as much by NWOBHM mainstays as Satan, Avenger, Iron Maiden, Praying Mantis, and Tokyo Blade as well as the power metalled likes of Gotham City, Nocturnal Rites, and Jag Panzer. With the joining of bassist Doc, HARBINGER then recorded a whole album’s worth of songs.
“This was around 2005 to 2006,” guitarist Victron Power L. continues the story. “Though the band never really caught on except with a few local friends at the time, we decided we should try to record the songs around that time. This was ill fated, and the original recording session with our friend Kevin was a disaster due to far too much partying, poor rehearsal, and overwhelming levels of power. We threw in the towel around 2007 but decide to give it another go a year later that resulted in the album Doom on You, or ‘Fuck You’ in Vietnamese.”
However, that second go didn’t yield the intended results, continues the guitarist: “The recording of Doom on You the second time around was not necessarily better managed, and still there was much tomfoolery and partying, and even the initial recordings from 2008 were are also destroyed in a cataclysmic event involving a bottle of alcohol, a misstep, and collision with the recording devices. However, upon the third attempt to record the album, we were able to see it through to the end, and that album is what you see here.”
Like a band out of time, HARBINGER strafed against the prevailing paradigms of 2009, when Doom on You was finally released, but there’s equally an effervescent sense of freshness here that puts the record far beyond retro retread. Raw and slick simultaneously, flashy yet fierce and also FUN, brimming with bright leads and dark ones, and an utterly engaging GOING-FOR-IT attitude, it’s practically impossible not to get swept up in Doom on You. The punk roots of most of the band’s members give their classic American power metal style a unique aspect, with a bevy of unusual twists and turns that, say, Agent Steel would’ve taken, but that just makes HARBINGER hit that much harder and lodge the album deeper into its your psyche. Seriously, this is cult metal for cult metallers, played by cult metallers!
“Though there was a lot of passion, a lot of friendship, and also a lot of bickering, we were able to leave this testament for us and a few of our friends who really liked what we did,” concludes Victron. “After the album came out on CD through Chris Black’s old label Planet Metal Records, we did one more show with Cauldron and Enforcer at Blondies in Detroit and put the band on a rest. We would return some years later to record a new song and play some concerts, but it was a little different and maybe should have been called something else.”
The members of HARBINGER played in many other projects afterwards: vocalist Matt Warr had Wastelander and now Low Magic; Doc had Locust Point; and Victron along with drummer Sean Cyriis and fellow guitarist David Ruiz followed with Borrowed Time and now Prelude to Ruin. But that one lone album document of Doom on You retained such a special magic, such a snapshot in time, that DYING VICTIMS felt duty-bound to preserve the name of Michigan’s HARBINGER for posterity – and we’re all the richer that it’s suitably (and FINALLY) being released on the format it so deserves, VINYL!

DVP 206 Spectr – Drifter / The Black Jewel (2022)
SPECTRE is the sterling heavy metal vison of Will Spectre. Formed in 2017, the band made its recorded debut that summer with the two-song Silver Invaders / Stand Alone single on the cult Heavy Chains label, which DYING VICTIMS released on 7” vinyl later that year. SPECTRE’s primary influences are heavy metal and hard rock of the late ’70s and early ‘80s, and they continued that streak with the Hard Attacks digital single in 2018.
Now back with DYING VICTIMS, SPECTRE return with another short-yet-satisfying recording in the two-song Drifter. On this record, Will Spectre is joined by his heavy friends Jake Glas (Outcast/Teuton) on vocals and David Harrington-George (The Wizar’d/Tarot) on bass. Indeed, as the cover slyly nods to cult Japanese psychedelia surely known to the most devout trainspotters, so, too, do SPECTRE here sprinkle spices from Will Spectre’s other musical conjurings – namely, The Wizar’d, Tarot, Dracula, and Crypt Vapor. What results on the title track “Drifter” and its flipside “The Black Jewel” is pure vintage bathos and pathos, the hard rocking moodier and more mysterious yet also more immediate and, somehow, disarmingly human in its naked bravado. The A-side gets the chest thumping and fists shaking, while the B-side is a haunting vision in velet: simple, sure, but also sublime. What dream singles are made of!

DVP 205 Venator – Echoes from the Gutter (2022)
Despite forming in 2016, it was not until 2020 when VENATOR made their recorded debut with the EP Paradiser. Nevertheless, the three songs contained therein were an incredibly auspicious first start, showing VENATOR as a band seemingly thawed out from 1983, so authentic and skyward was their songwriting. Wrapped in a uniquely retro-futuristic production, Paradiser pointed the way forward for VENATOR, and the buzz began to build.
Now, that buzz is gonna boil over with the band’s full-length debut, Echoes From the Gutter. Graced with yet another amazingly era-authentic artwork courtesy of frontman Hans Huemer, Echoes From the Gutter takes the melody and moodiness of its no-less-inconsiderable predecessor to uncharted heights (and depths!) of glory, both grimy and gleaming. Right from the record’s very first seconds, VENATOR burst and bristle with an electricity that’s positively, stunningly addicting; ANTHEM after ANTHEM is doled out with almost laissez-faire ease, each hook hoisted heavenly and then brought back down to – yes – the gutter. It’s the kind of album that walks that fine line between street-level and upwardly-mobile, much like heavy metal’s forerunning bands of the early 1980s, when the landscape of conquest from club to stadium was still a special dream.
Or, simply submit to the emotive vocals of Huemer, whose heart-on-sleeve clarity commands his bandmates onward, they in kind delivering a truly impassioned performance that encompasses many speeds and many moods, but always with those HOOKS front and center – and fucking GODLY solos! Seriously: the solos here!!!
Anyone pining for the 1983/’84 peak of the likes of Tokyo Blade, Grim Reaper, OZ, Witch Cross, Heavy Load, and even Judas Priest but adding to that hallowed lineage rather than plagiarizing it, you’ve found your new modern classic in VENATOR’s Echoes From the Gutter!

DVP 204 Vicious Knights – Alteration Through Possession (2022)
VICIOUS KNIGHTS is an old-school death/thrash metal band, screaming from Thessaloniki, Greece. The band was formed in 2016 by Antonis “Harvester” (guitars/vocals) and Liakos (drums). Panos (bass guitar) entered the band a few months later. This three-piece of total maniacs issued self-released on CD their first EP Malevolent Spirits, originally in 2018 and then reissued in 2020 by the World War Now label. The band had many gigs in Greece presenting their first release and some of their newer material, making a great impact on the underground scene.
Now, armed with the support of DYING VICTIMS, VICIOUS KNIGHTS return to destroy the world with their first full-length, Alteration Through Possession! Curiously yet tellingly titled, Alteration Through Possession indeed transforms the listener…once that listener is ensnared in the power-trio’s iron grip! Like a trip back to 1987, VICIOUS KNIGHTS live up to their moniker by invoking the old spirits of early Kreator, Destruction, Possessed, and Sepultura, combining more devotedly horror-specific lyrics with absolutely ass-ripping DEATHRASH.
They go beyond the gates to inflict eternal pain, their infernal overkill bestowing morbid visions upon those who still believe in razor-wire riffing, snarling-evil vokills, and straightforward drum-propulsion – and of course, actual songwriting. Simple, sure, but sublime: Alteration Through Possession is a pleasure to kill!

DVP 203 Tangent – Tangent (2022)
Three wild dogs! Four wild tracks!! Locked down, loaded up, and ready to explode on DYING VICTIMS: this is the self-titled first recording from Melbourne’s TANGENT, heavy metal from the suburbs north of the river. Despite their newness of existence, their sound is most definitely OLD, which should come as no surprise given the power-trio’s membership includes current and former members of Demons Gate, Outcast, Convent Guilt, and Shackles among others.
Simple but not simplistic, resilient to time and trends and rippling with feeling and energy at every turn, Tangent is a rough ‘n’ rowdy trawl through rundown bars and desolate backstreets, but with the world weighing heavy on the mind of the protagonist. As such, heroic hot-rockin’ underpins TANGENT’s thrust, giving each of these four anthems-in-the-making an astute balance between the pensive and the powerful. It’s all fondly familiar, but hazily recast in a refreshing manner, like a lost Heavy Pettin’ recording found in the Eastern Bloc during the ‘80s or if Saxon had shared a practice space with Omen in some alternate time/space fold. Or, simply, the first makings of something special and EPIC.
With mastering by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony giving it an exceptionally olde-worlde feel, theTangent mini album is ready to explode!

DVP 202 Tension – Decay (2022)
Hailing from Leipzig, Germany’s TENSION was founded in 2015 by vocalist Maik H. and guitarist Phil. M. during a night of dozens of heavy metal records and unlimited amounts of beer. The band was then rounded out by ex-members of Toxic Beast and Germany’s Prowler.
From the beginning, TENSION’s influences were firm: the First Wave of Swedish Heavy Metal (or FWOSWHM), including the likes of Gotham City, Heavy Load, Jackwave, Parasite, Jonah Quizz, Depzon, and Stitch among others; the always-eternal NWOBHM, but particularly Satan, Traitors Gate, Wolf, Ritual, and Lime Light; heavy metal from the Eastern Bloc like Aria, Ossian, Formel I, Omen, and Pokolgép; and different kinds of punk music, but most prominently The Misfits and Discharge. In other words, the PERFECT type of band for DYING VICTIMS – and not surprisingly, TENSION released their self-titled debut EP through the label in 2017. Gigs followed with the esteemed likes of Manilla Road, Satan, Pagan Altar, Tokyo Blade, and Alien Force among others.
Now, nearly five years since the Tension short-length, TENSION unleash their debut album, Decay. Right from its very first seconds, Decay sparkles with an excitement that’s absolutely addicting and endearingly timeless, running through a virtual jukebox of Old but brimming with the effervescence of Now.
It’s pure heavy metal, through and through, with juiced-up hard rock and moody punk subtly integrated, and the power is always in abundance but never overbearing; TENSION’s cool & cruising momentum harkens to a lost era of feel over sheer speed. At the fore are nightsky-ascending lead guitars, whose narrative melodies straddle a fine line between metal classicism and something closer to dark hard rock. And Maik’s clear ‘n’ emotive vocals bespeak bathos and pathos, bravado but tenderness, epic adventures as well as long nights at the bar.
The cassette and CD versions of Decay will include nine tracks, with the self-titled EP added to the latter as bonus tracks. The vinyl version of the album will include eight tracks due to length, with the extra track saved for a split EP to be released later in 2022. In the meantime, no better time to experience the “Higher Power” of TENSION’s Decay!
